Imagination Alive

Metaphoric Self Portrait Statement
Ihave always envisioned myself as a teacher. Throughout my life, teachers have nurtured and inspired alove and appreciation for art. Asa young impressionable student, some teachers have shown me compassion andcaring as some other teachers have not. Learning and imagination walk hand in hand with teaching. One cannot teach effectively withoutconveying some type of image that students can visualize and understand. The metaphors that I used in my selfportrait focus on the ability of a child’s imagination to literally jump offthe pages in a book. Teachers usewords in books as tools for interpreting images. From these words, we learn meaning and create our ownspecial images from personal experiences. We all bring our thoughts, pasts, memories and experience to the tableand we all learn in a communal way. I believe the old method of teaching as lecture is outdated and the wayI approach teaching is by seeing, reading, looking and most of all experiencingthe world.

I agree with ideas of how the method of teaching should focus more on the students experiencing what they learn and not just what the educators tell them.

I like this piece of art. It says that imagination is important to keep in a child's mind and that is true. Art is important, and this work conveys that.

This work is asymmetrically balanced and it works like that. The piece has a wide range of value as indicated by the lightness in the ray of light and the darkness by the tree. The piece has a clear message and is easily understandable from a teacher's point of view. This piece says a lot about the artist, believing that imagination is key to a child's learning capabilities and that is true to an extent.

As an art student myself, I can appreciate the effort that this piece has had put into it, but the craftsmanship could have been slightly better. Although the message is cleare, the use of layers could clearly have been pushed further, and with an eye for more unique pics. Like I said the message is clear but the work could be pushed further within photoshop.

So this is a really interesting piece of artwork. Im not really sure i get it totally, because the different animals are kind of weirdly placed aroun the edges. I understand the idea of imagination and creativity and all that, but why animals? why not aliens and monsters or something and why can't they fly out of the book, that would make it really seem like it was litterally coming out of it, like he was reading it or something. Otherwise, not a bad piece of art.

  6. I like the different images that form the colorful collage. Especially when there is a meaning hidden behind each photo and piece. It's like almost he is opening up the book and expanding his mind through each page. The light that illuminates the book like its new or different but I agree with the person above. Why not aliens? Or galaxies etc? With PhotoShop the unknown can be done (to an extent). That book is the centerpiece to this artwork. But this is a very interesting piece. Nice job!

  7. This piece of art is truly amazing! I picture myself as a young child with a wild imagination. When we see pictures we interpret them with an imagination of our own which makes leaning more fun and alot easier! Seeing a picture of something that catches the viewers attention, it sticks in your head and is something you will remember and constanly think about. This piece of art has endless meanings and is very abstract to young people's lives. Excellent piece of art!
